August 8th, 2013

The Group 1 Premiere Stakes is due to run at Royal Randwick Racecourse on Saturday October 5, 2013.

The 2013 Premiere Stakes will take place under open weight-for-age conditions and is open to horses aged three-years-old and upwards.

Scheduled to run as part of Epsom Handicap Day, the race shares its program with the Group 1 The Metropolitan, Group 1 Flight Stakes, Group 1 Epsom Handicap, Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes, Group 3 Craven Plate, Listed Dulcify Quality Handicap, Listed Breeders’ Plate and Listed Gimcrack Stakes.

Last year’s winner of the Premiere Stakes was Red Tracer, who won the race by one length ahead of Satin Shoes and Emotional Circus in her first-up spring start.

Red Tracer went on to place third in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes in her next start, before running in the Group 1 Myer Classic.

The Dane Shadow mare is unlikely to return to racing this spring, after finally claiming her Group 1 title in the Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm Racecourse in June.

She will most likely begin a broodmare career this season, with her foal sure to incite a bidding war thanks to her exceptional race record.

While Red Tracer will not feature in the field, there will still be a full field of talented sprinters in the race.
