Charging home to secure a maiden Group 1 victory over the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith has included Famous Seamus in nominations for the 2014 Premiere Stakes.

Securing nine wins and eight minor places from just 32 competitive starts so far, Famous Seamus finished third in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) first-up this year, but appeared to be outclassed when only managing ninth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) and eleventh in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) on April 12th.

Finishing fifth in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) upon arriving in Brisbane for the Winter Carnival, the Elusive City gelding was given no hope of success when lining up for the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) on May 10th, but displayed an exceptional turn of foot to charge home and win by a comfortable half length.

Running on to finish third in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) on September 20th, Mayfield-Smith is confident of a return to the winner’s circle for Famous Seamus through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, who is offered a great chance in the Premiere Stakes.

Also included in nominations for the 2014 Premiere Stakes is in-form sprinter Tiger Tees.

Charging home to win the Listed Falvelon (1200m) first-up on February 22nd, Tiger Tees also appeared out of sorts when finishing ninth in the Challenge Stakes, but responded in the best way possible when charging home to win The Galaxy with relative ease.

Continuing to impress via fourth in the T.J. Smith and third in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m), the Dubawi gelding won both the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) and Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) upon returning to racing this time in; finishing second to Lucia Valentina in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400) last time out.

A standout performer in black type events in Sydney over winter, trainer John O’Shea has nominated Generalife for a racing return in the 2014 Premiere Stakes.

Claiming eight wins and four minors from his 21 competitive starts so far, Generalife finished outside the places just once in seven starts through his most recent preparation.

Finishing third in the City Jeep Handicap (1200m) first-up on March 10th, the Lonhro gelding continued to build in form and class over minor events; finishing third in the Hyland Race Colours 3.y.o+ (1400m) on May 24th before securing three impressive victories to close out his preparation, highlighted by both the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) and Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) last time out on July 19th.

Securing several impressive results despite being able to contest much of a consistent run of form over major two-year-old events in autumn, trainer Gerald Ryan has been thrilled with the work and form produced by Time For War in the lead-up to his racing return and has included the now three-year-old in Premiere Stakes nominations.

Charging home to win the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) first-up on March 29th, the Snitzel colt was unlucky to be beaten in the final straight when fourth in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m), and while particularly disappointing when beating just one runner home in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m), responded in the best way possible when winning the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) on May 24th.

Yet to confirm a specific path for Time For War through the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Ryan is likely to aim for an open sprint with the son of Lady Zabelia should he be successful in the Premiere Stakes.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Premiere Stakes is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
