2014 Premiere Stakes Betting Update

October 2nd, 2014

Just eight runners have been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick, offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Having broken through for a maiden Group 1 victory earlier in the year, classy sprinter Famous Seamus has opened as and maintained status as outright favourite for success in Premiere Stakes betting markets but has surprisingly drifted out from opening odds of $2.70 to currently sit at a quote of $2.80 with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Claiming nine wins and eight minor places from his 32 competitive starts so far, Famous Seamus finished third in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) first-up this year, and while unable to figure in either of the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) or Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m), returned to competitive form upon arriving in Brisbane for the Winter Racing Carnival.

Running a credible fifth amongst classy competition in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) on April 26th, the Elusive City gelding was given no hope of success when jumping as least favourite in betting markets for the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m), however responded in the best way possible in displaying a superior turn of foot and winning by a comfortable half length.

Finishing third in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) first-up this time, trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith has been thrilled with the progressing condition of Famous Seamus and is confident of a return to the winner’s circle in the Premiere Stakes.

Yet to receive much more than a sprinkling of bets for success in Premiere Stakes markets, I’ve Got The Looks has maintained status as sole occupant of the second line of betting and is currently available at odds of $3.80.

Trained by the late, great Guy Walter until his passing earlier this year, I’ve Got The Looks has returned to the track in competitive form this season, delivering new trainers Peter and Paul Snowden a record of two wins and one place from four appearances on course.

Comfortably winning a minor over 1200m on July 5th, the Choisir mare finished third amongst classy competition in the TFE Hotels Great Weekends FM (11500m) on July 26th before returning to the winner’s circle in the Hyland Race Colours 3.y.o+ (1200m) on August 9th.

Finishing fifth in The Shorts most recently, punters may find value in adding I’ve Got The Looks as a selection in a Premiere Stakes quinella or trifecta bet.

Currently sharing the third line of betting with classy Godolphin runner Generalife, Rain Affair has so far received the greatest market share of bets for success in the 2014 Premiere Stakes; cutting in from opening odds of $6.50 to register as clear $6 market mover.

A notable performer in major black type events through 2013 which included runs for second in both the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) and BTC Cup, the Commands gelding was unable to figure in three disappointing starts over autumn but has seemingly returned to the track in competitive form this time; finishing third in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) on September 6th.
