2016 Premiere Stakes Field and Barrier Draw

Fourteen sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick; highlighted by the inclusion of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting horses.

Our Boy Malachi has not been seen at the races since finishing fourth in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) in autumn but has been confirmed for a return in the 2016 Premiere Stakes field.

Returning to racing this year for a classy and dominant win in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m), Our Boy Malachi finished fifth in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) in his only other start prior to the TJ Smith.

Group 1 winners Under The Louvre (barrier 1), Rebel Dane (barrier 13) and Famous Seamus (barrier 7) have all been confirmed in the 2016 Premiere Stakes field.

Under The Louvre returned to racing this year for a credible third in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1200m) on April 23rd, having been charged with carrying a race-high 60kgs amongst talented company.

Progressing to second behind Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m), the Excellent Art entire broke through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) on June 11th before returning to the paddock.

Under The Louvre has so far finishing second in the Group 3 The Heath (1100m) and fourth in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) this time in.

Rebel Dane posted a number of typically smart results through autumn; highlighted by fourth place finishes in each of the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m).

Placing second in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) first-up this time, Rebel Dane has since run third in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) and sixth in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m).

Famous Seamus is a particularly interesting acceptor into the Premiere Stakes field, and undoubtedly has the ability to salute at big odds.

Having trialled well leading into his 2016 Spring Carnival campaign, the Elusive City gelding ran eighth in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) first-up, before maintaining for third in the Group 3 Cameron Handicap (1350m) last time out.

English is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from her first-up run for fifth in the Group 2 The Shorts (1200m), and will enjoy a step up in distance for the Premiere Stakes.

Taking out the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) upon resuming this year, the Encosta De Lago mare ran sixth in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) and third in the TJ Smith Stakes before claiming her first Group 1 title in the All Aged Stakes.
